Privacy Policy

Your privacy is fundamental to NoType. This Privacy Policy explains how NoType handles your data. The short version: your voice and text never leave your Mac.
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
NoType is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Specifically: • No voice recordings are sent to any server • No transcribed text is transmitted to the cloud • No analytics, telemetry, or usage data is collected • No crash reports are automatically sent • No cookies or tracking technologies are used • No advertising identifiers are accessed Note: License activation requires a one-time online verification that transmits your license key and device identifier to our server (see Section 5). No voice, text, or usage data is involved in this process.
2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
NoType stores the following data exclusively on your Mac: • Transcribed text and associated metadata (timestamps, language, transcription speed) • Audio recordings in WAV format • User preferences (selected model, recognition language, hotkey configuration, auto-paste settings) • Downloaded AI model files All data is stored in your user directory (~/Library/Application Support/NoType/ and ~/.cache/huggingface/) and is fully under your control.
3. Microphone Access
NoType requires microphone access to capture your voice for speech-to-text conversion. Audio is captured at 16kHz mono quality and processed entirely on your device using local AI models. No audio data is ever transmitted over any network. You can revoke microphone access at any time through macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
4. Accessibility Access
NoType optionally uses macOS Accessibility permissions to automatically paste transcribed text into your active application via simulated keyboard shortcuts. This feature is entirely optional — you can disable it and paste text manually. No information about your other applications, screen content, or system activity is collected through this permission.
5. Third-Party Services
NoType connects to external servers in two cases: 1. AI Model Downloads — from HuggingFace (huggingface.co): • No personal data or user information is sent • No audio or text data is transmitted • Only publicly available model weight files are downloaded • All downloads use HTTPS encryption 2. License Verification — via our license server (api.notype.org): • Your license key and a device identifier (hardware UUID) are sent to verify your purchase • No voice recordings, transcribed text, or usage data is transmitted • This occurs during license activation and periodic validation checks • All communication uses HTTPS encryption NoType also checks for app updates via api.notype.org/version (no personal data is sent). Payments are processed by Paddle (paddle.com); NoType does not handle payment information directly. NoType contains no advertising SDKs, analytics services, crash reporting tools, or any other third-party data collection mechanisms.
6. Data Control and Deletion
You have complete control over all your data: • Delete individual transcription records from within the app • Clear all records at once using the app's built-in function • Export your transcriptions as formatted text • Delete downloaded models to free disk space • Uninstalling NoType removes the application; local data can be deleted by removing ~/Library/Application Support/NoType/ Our license server stores your license key, associated email, and device identifier for purchase verification purposes. You may request deletion of this data by contacting us at [email protected].
7. Children's Privacy
NoType does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since the app collects no personal information from any user, there are no special data considerations for children.
8. Data Security
Your data is protected by macOS's built-in security features, including file system permissions and optional FileVault full-disk encryption. NoType's network connections are limited to AI model downloads and license verification — neither of which involves voice recordings, transcribed text, or personal content. All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and communicated through app updates. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
